James Gary Rhode

James Gary Rhode, 101, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Mollie Snowden Rhode entered into eternal rest Monday, February 20, 2023. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 23, 2023 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Jimmie was born on August 25, 1921 in Cottageville, SC, son of the late John Gary Rhode and Mary Elizabeth Rhode. He attended Cottageville High School. Through the years he hosted hundreds of people for Thanksgivings, Christmases, Church Get Togethers, Class Reunions, and more at his beloved farm in Cottageville. Jimmie will continue to be remembered for his quiet willingness to serve others. He was an Armored Engineer in the United States Army serving during World War II. Jimmie went on to found and run Rhode Construction Co, Inc and serve as President until his retirement in 1990. He was an active member of Ashley River Baptist Church for 70 years. 

Jimmie is survived by his children Nancy Ellen Rhode and James Gary Rhode Jr. (Ann Smith), and grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Rhode and James Gary Rhode III. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Rhode and Snowden families. Jimmie is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Mollie Rhode, the love of his life.
