James Hayes Quackenbush, Jr.

James Hayes Quackenbush, Jr. passed away in Mt. Pleasant, SC on November 7, 2016 at the age of 73.

He is predeceased by his parents, James Hayes Quackenbush, Sr. and Sarah PerMar Quackenbush. Jim is lovingly remembered by his children; DeVeaux Quackenbush Carter (Cooper), PerMar Quackenbush Olin (Jon) and Sarah Carter Quackenbush; his nephews Laurence Scott Barringer, III and James Hugh McFaddin Barringer; his sister Delora Quackenbush Walsh (Gray) and their sons Stanley Gray Walsh, Jr., James Hayes Walsh; his grandchildren Anne Peyre DeVeaux Carter, Rose Cooper Carter, Julian Baker Olin, William Hayes Olin and Virginia Grace Olin.

Jim was born in Columbia, SC on May 7, 1943 and attended Dreher High School. He graduated from The Citadel in 1965 and earned his law degree at the University of South Carolina. A proud veteran of the armed forces, Jim served in Korea. His professional life was rich and varied. A named partner in several prominent law firms as well as a lobbyist for financial institutions, Jim was greatly interested in the political life, participating at both the local and national level - a proud member of the "Peanut Brigade". He served on the board of numerous non-profit organizations and was a devout parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jim spent years as a SC Wildlife Commissioner. He also enjoyed traveling, country music, baseball and finding the perfect barbecue sandwich. Gregarious and generous to a fault, "Quack" will be missed by many.

His memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201 on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm. A reception at the church will follow.
