James E. Porter, Sr., 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 23, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 26, in Folly Beach Baptist Church 77 Center Street, Folly Beach, SC at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

James was born November 6, 1940 in Conway, South Carolina, son of the late Jesse W. Porter and Lilly May Cox Porter. He was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran and a retired carpenter for Westvaco. James was also a member of Folly Beach Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons: James E. Porter, Jr. and Richard T. Porter (Nannette); three grandchildren: Richard W. Porter, Katelyn Nicole Porter and Amber P. Porter all of James Island, SC; one sister, Alice P. Dick (John) of Moncks Corner, SC; numerous nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carrie Dianne "Missy" Porter.
