James M. Poe, Jr.

James M. Poe, Jr., 85, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 30, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held, Friday, February 7, 2025 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1519 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., at 10:00am. Burial will immediately follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

James was born January 6, 1940 in his grandmother’s bedroom in Radford, Virginia, son of the late James M. Poe, Sr. and the late Margaret F. Guill Poe. Jim loved his “Hokies” and was a member of the Corp of Cadets and the Regimental Band at Virgina Polytechnical Institute. An avid golfer in his earlier days and still enjoyed following the pro tour regularly. A lover of Opera music and dedicated and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent a lifetime in leadership positions. His greatest joy was serving others and spending time with family. His smile could light up a room and never missed the opportunity to engage and charm all that he met. His most cherished title was that of “GranGran”.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Lynn Vial of Hardeeville,SC, Stephanie P. Carswell of Moncks Corner, SC, and his son James Bradford Poe from Charleston, sisters Joyce Aldrige of Charleston and Chery Roan of Braselton, GA. He has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
