Reverend James Radner McNeill, 91, of Charleston, SC, widower of Gerri Stalvey McNeill, entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 27, 2013. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at First Assembly of God, 2957 Savannah Hwy., at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy.
Reverend McNeill was born December 15, 1921 in McCormick, South Carolina, son of the late Fred McNeill and Winnie Dew McNeill. He attended Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC. Reverend McNeill was a retired minister in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, pastoring 19 churches for 61 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division. Reverend McNeill participated in the invasion of Normandy and also served in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Reverend McNeill was a member and former chaplain of American Legion Post 179.
He is survived by his son, Reverend Randal McNeill (Christine) of McDonough, GA; his daughter, Sharon Kennedy (Reverend Stan) of Florence, SC; his two sisters, Elizabeth "Beth" Stalbaum and Dora Sandhu, both of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Burrell; his granddaughter, Robin Kennedy; and his grandson, Justin Burrell.
