Art was born June 21, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey. Son of the late James Arthur Lyon, Sr. and Emla Dey Lyon, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, John Stanely Lyon.
As a youth, he reached the highest level of achievement in Scouting as an Eagle Scout. After attending Delaware Township High School where he excelled in Wrestling, Track and Football, Art attended Western Carolina College on a football scholarship. He was a member of Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, and the Homebuilders Association of New Jersey.
Art was the owner of the Jim Lyon Company and was considered a true craftsman of his trade. His passion for building was passed down from his father and continues today through his children.
Being an Eagle Scout taught Art the survival skills and dedication he needed for quality work. He was a hard worker, and expected the same of those around him. Art continued working until age 75, mentoring others in the trade. He believed "It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; its the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time."
Art was an avid Outdoorsman and loved Motorcycles. He stayed consistent with his beliefs and love for his family and faith until the end.
