James Dixon Lesslie, III, known to all his friends and family as Dixon and to his three grandchildren as DeeDee, passed away peacefully on Friday June 17, 2016, surrounded by family at the Hospice House of Charleston on Wando Park Blvd.
His Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Dixon was born on April 30, 1944, in Fort Mill, SC, son of the late James Dixon Lesslie, Jr. and Elizabeth Ware Lesslie. He graduated from Fort Mill High School in 1962 and attended Erskine College where he played golf in Due West, SC. Upon his graduation from Erskine College in 1966, Dixon attended the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. He married his wife of 48 years, Patricia Grier Lesslie, in June 1968 at the Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill after receiving his pharmacy degree. They moved to Greenville, SC, where they started their family and Dixon spent his career as a pharmacist. Dixon started out and spent many years as a pharmacist in the Greenville Hospital System, 20 years at The Prescription Center in Spartanburg, and before his retirement worked for 10 years with the Bi-Lo Pharmacy. He was a deacon at Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dixon's strong faith carried him throughout his life and was a great comfort to him and his family as he was carried on to death. After retirement, Dixon and Patti moved to Mount Pleasant, SC, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They resided together at Sandpiper Independent Living. Dixon enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, swimming, golfing, and trips to the family's mountain house in Flat Rock, NC. While in Mt. Pleasant he was the treasurer for the Sandpiper Church. Dixon could regularly be heard cheering on his beloved grandchildren at all their games. Dixon will be remembered by many for the kindness he always showed towards others and his witty sense of humor. He will forever be remembered by his family as a supportive, generous, humble man that loved the Lord and every minute he spent with us.
Surviving in addition to his wife Patti are: two children, James Grier Lesslie, Sr. (Jenny) and Patricia Corbett Lesslie, three grandchildren, James Grier Lesslie, Jr., Charlotte Lesslie, and Noel Lesslie, all of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Ann Reid (Lowry), of Columbus, GA; a niece, Lesslie Carnahan, of Columbus, GA; and a nephew, Dr. John Reid, of Atlanta, GA.The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses of MUSC and Hospice of Charleston for their great care.
