J. W. Leary, 81, of James Island, South Carolina, husband of Marilyn Flowers Leary entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 8, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Monday in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. J.W. was born January 9, 1937 in Potsdam, NY, son of the late James William Leary and Nora Reagan Leary.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. He enjoyed going to The Senior Center on James Island every Wednesday and Thursday to play bridge with some great friends. He loved the yearly vacation with his family at Folly Beach for the past 15 years and he will be greatly missed by all.J.W. retired after 27 years with Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation as an engineer/superintendant and then worked 8 years in the local construction industry. He was a proud member of American Legion Post #147, James Island and a former member of the Charleston Elks Lodge #242.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Flowers Leary of James Island, SC; two sons, Michael James Leary (Diane dec. 2011) of Virginia Beach, VA, Patrick Leo Leary of Myrtle Beach, SC, two daughters, Maureen Nora Rudolph (Art) of Charlotte, NC, and Kristina Marie Lyman of Charleston, SC, seven grandchildren: Michael Ryan Leary, Kristin Leigh Leary Hudgins (Chris), Reagan Elizabeth Rudolph, Cooper Paul Rudolph, Molly Kathryn Rudolph, Jamesyn Matthew Pokryfka, Jaxsyn Calvin Nettles, two great-grandsons, Noah and Abel Hudgins, brother, John C. Leary (Laurie) of Petaluma, CA.
