Rev. James Walter Kendall, Sr., 79, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Barbara S. Kendall, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, in a local hospital.
Born April 9, 1931 in Belvedere, SC he was the son of Joseph E. Kendall and Mamie Featherstone Kendall. He was a graduate of Johnson Bible College of Knoxville, TN and Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY. For 33 years he was a pastor for the Christian Church - Disciples of Christ. Following his retirement from the ministry, he worked part-time for a hotel chain. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, SC.
Rev. Kendall is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara S. Kendall of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Lynne Harley and her husband Michael of Summerville, SC; son, James W. Kendall Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren: Ryan Gadd, Roxanne Kendall, Miles Kendall, and Kristin Lane; great-grandchildren: Ian, Kayla and Alyssa Gadd, MacKenzie and Lylah Lane, and Isabella Morrison; niece, Maureen Watanabe of Huntsville, AL;.
The memorial service will be held in Bethany United Methodist Church Spell Chapel, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM. His family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Child Development Center, CDC Fund, Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd Street South, Summerville, SC 29483.
