James "Jimmie" Kent Wright, 93, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Lottie Lee Watanabe Hartnett Wright died Saturday, May 7, 2016. His family will hold a private service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Jimmie was born July 28, 1922 in Monticello, Missouri, son of the late Alfred Wright and the late Bernice Ferguson Wright. He served in WWII as an Army Infantry Expert Marksman. In 1945 he was awarded The Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart for distinguished service to his country. He remained in France after the war and earned an Engineering Degree from Biarritz University. Moved to Hollywood to pursue his dream of becoming a magician and earned Master of Prestidigitation at Chavez School of Magic. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago and passed the CPA exam in Colorado.
He had a distinguished 25-year Federal Civil Service career with The Department of Defense traveling worldwide to over 50 countries ending up at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He worked 15 more years after DOD until age 80. Was appointed Inspector General of The Department of Energy working with President Reagan appointed Secretary of Energy and former SC Governor Jim Edwards. Served as consultant to Metro and World Bank. He finished his career with the US State Department. He traveled to Africa regularly managing US financial aid to the Central Republic of Africa. He was an accomplished International Auditor, Public Speaker, Professional Magician and world traveler.
Liked by everyone he met and respected by his peers, he will be remembered as kind, hard working, talented, grounded and devilishly handsome. He was a great storyteller and made everyone laugh. Grateful for his long presence and joyful with memories, his family and friends celebrate a truly amazing man and a life well lived.
He is survived by his son, David K. Wright, M.D. of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Davis and Ann Wright of Isle of Palms, SC; and former daughter-in-law, Angela Wright Funcik of Isle of Palms, SC.
