James "Jim" Murphy Laird, 79, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Linda Johnson Laird entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 29, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 12:30 pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
Jim was born September 11, 1944, in Pelion, South Carolina, the son of the late James Belton Laird and the late Bernice Sharpe Laird. Jim was a lover of all things boating and fishing. His love of the water and spending time on the boat surrounded by family was his greatest joy, especially his many years on Lake Murray. Jim and Linda called Columbia home for many years but Isle of Palms was where their heart was. They permanently relocated to be with both of their sons here in Charleston where he continued his love of the water.
Jim was the kindest soul you would ever meet and will be remembered for the spectacular way he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Jim was fondly known by everyone who loved him as “Uncle James” even though he was more like a father. He loved harder than anyone and will never truly know what he’s meant to so many. We are all better people for having known his love.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; two sons, Jason Murphy Laird (Sean) of Wailuku, HI; James Allen Laird (Emily) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and two grandchildren Walker and Ella Laird who he cherished more than words. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother Douglas Brannon Laird.
