James worked on the BandO (later CandO, then Chessie System) from 1937 until his retirement in 1979. He started as a telegrapher but ended as the Chief Clerk of the Division office. Until his retirement, his previous residences were all in Ohio-in Dayton, Deshler, Vermilion-on-the-Lake, Lorain, and Akron.
