James VanDerveer Henriksen, 99, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 1, 2021. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7, 2021 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. His funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 pm. Interment will take place on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Beaufort National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
James was born August 26, 1922 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Henriksen Sr. and Rosa Jones Henriksen. He was a master electrician, an owner of Coastal Electrical Company, Inc., and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 80 years. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was even sworn in by John F. Kennedy at the Charleston Battery in 1942.
He is survived by his sons, James V Henriksen Jr. and Danny Henriksen; daughter, Terri Harley; 9 grandchildren; Lisa Buck, Kim Stone, James Henriksen III, Brent Henriksen, Laura Springer, Andrew Henriksen, Forest Henriksen, Joshua Henriksen, and Jacob Henriksen; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Langford Henriksen; brothers, John Henriksen Jr. and Robert Henriksen; and sister, Tina Belcher.
