James "Jimmy" Advil Guess, Jr., 69, of Hollywood, South Carolina, husband of Cheryl Honeycutt Guess, entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 5, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 9, 2013, in the Christ St. Paul's Parish Church, 4981 Chapel Road, Yonges Island, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Union Presbyterian Churchyard, Salters, SC at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC.WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Jimmy was born February 25, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina, the son of the late James Advil Guess and Mell Brown Guess. He was retired from Delta Airlines with Passenger Services and attended Christ St. Paul's Parish Church. He served in the United States Army, attended Montreat College, The Baptist College and was a member of the Charleston Shag Club.
As a child, Jimmy spent summers at Pawleys Island. He had a passion for fishing and made lifelong "creek buddies." Gatherings with family and friends at the beach was his personal paradise.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Guess of Hollywood; daughter, Catherine Guess Wheeler (Joey) of Mt. Pleasant; step daughter, Lisa McCaskill Newland (Tommy) of Yonges Island; step-son, Travis Kevin McCaskill ( Hadley) of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Vicky McDonald (Steve) of Greenville, SC, Rhoda Hayes of Columbia, SC and Rebecca "Bee" McGill (Robert) of Lane, SC; six grandchildren, Wilson Wheeler, Janey Newland, Frances Newland, Jordan Newland, Cole McCaskill and Harper McCaskill; and 11 nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine G. Horton.
