James was born September 24, 1953 in Columbia, South Carolina, son of James Alford Grimsley, Sr. and Alice Mae Phelps Grimsley. He was a longtime resident of Columbia, SC where he was the owner of Southern Heating & Air.

James is survived by his two daughters; Chelsea Grimsley Oswald (Jeremy) of Charleston, SC; Brittany Grimsley Walker (Tim) of Orlando, FL; sister, Terri Jo Gregory of Manning, SC; three grandchildren; Kate Taylor Oswald, Alice Caroline Oswald and Patricia Charles Oswald; and several nieces and nephews. He was formerly married to Patricia Lynch Grimsley of Charleston, SC, for 46 years.

“J” was most proud of his two daughters and loved supporting their athletic and dance pursuits. He was a dedicated coach as well as boater, taking pride in his recent U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license. J was a talented musician and guitar collector who found great joy in the spirit of rock and roll.

His larger than life presence will be greatly missed and he will be forever loved.
