James J. Grady, Jr.

James J. Grady, Jr. (Jim), of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina died Monday, March 20, 2023. Jim was born October 30, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late James J. Grady, Sr., and the late Helen FT Grady. He was a longtime resident of Alexandria, VA and moved with his wife Tootie to Mount Pleasant in 2012 to be near his grandchildren.

Jim was a proud graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia and Villanova University. He had a long and distinguished career with the United States Government supporting the US Military worldwide. He worked with the Navy Supply System Command (NAVSUP); the General Services Administration (GSA); and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). He was selected by President Carter to join the Senior Executive Service (SES) in 1980; he was given the SES Presidential Rank Award by President George H W Bush in 1991 for his service during Operation Desert Shield/Storm; and he closed out his 34 years of Federal Service as the Defense Logistics Chair for 2 years at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF). Jim also proudly served his community as a soccer coach - area coordinator and then President of the Alexandria Soccer Association.

Jim is survived by his son, James J. Grady III (Sherri) of Mount Pleasant, SC and daughter, Suzanne Sydnor of Chesterfield, VA; and grandchildren, Abbey and Sean Grady. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne “Tootie” M. Grady.

Funeral services will be held privately by the family. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
