James Milton Gault

August 29, 1936 — September 2, 2013

James Milton Gault of Leesville, South Carolina, husband of Armonia Muñoz Grillo Gault, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 2, 2013. His graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC ., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

James (Jim) was born in Los Angeles, California, August 29, 1936, the beloved son of Robert Lee Gault and Adeline Davis Gault. He was a graduate from Lancaster Junior High where he played football for the school as #33. In his college years at San Jose State University, Jim was the Spartans mascot and member of the fraternity, Sigma Chi. He loved playing the guitar with his friends including Tommy Smothers.

His degree in physical education led him to a brilliant and renowned career as a Gymnastics coach, with the highest recognition in the sport, not only nationally but in the international circle. Jim coached for the World University Games, the Maccabean Games and was the University of Arizona Women Gymnastics Coach for 19 years. He was the Founder of the United States Gymnastics Elite Association, a member of the NCAA Women Gymnastics Committee and the recipient of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame, University of Arizona and State of Arizona and was Pac-10 Coach of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Armonia, whom he married on December 31, 1990 in Tuscon, Arizona. Jim was the loving father of Kelli Gault (Devereux), Jeff Gault, and Shannon Gault (Pascale), he is predeceased by his son, Russell Gault all children of his first marriage. Jim is also survived by his sister, Leatha Flatt, grandfather of Brandon Gault, Nicholas Gault, Alexandra Devereux, Cameron Devereux, Devyn and Giovanna Pascale and great-grandfather of Abigail Gault and Hunter Gault.

He was funny, had a great sense of humor and charisma, responsible, a loving son, husband and father. He will be missed by the many that love and cherish him.
