James Hugh Burns Gaskins

James Hugh Burns Gaskins, 89, of Rock Hill, SC, former longtime resident of North Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest Friday, January 10, 2014. His memorial service will be held Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Messiah Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment with military honors is private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Hugh was born August 5, 1924 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Hugh Volly Gaskins and the late Lillian Toomer Gaskins. He was a graduate of the NY Trade School for Electricians and during WWII served as an Army technician in Company C, 277th Engineer Combat Battalion.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynne Watkins and her husband Dick of Rock Hill, SC; daughter-in-law, Deborah Gaskins of North Charleston, SC; grandchildren: John "Jack" Watkins, J. E. B. Watkins and Emily Gaskins; brother-in-law, John Nesbitt of TX. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Helen Ruth Kemmerlin Gaskins; two sons, James "Jimmy" H. B. Gaskins Jr. and Donald Rhett Gaskins.
