James H. B. "Jimmy" Gaskins, Jr., 67, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Deborah Atchison Gaskins, died with his wife by his side Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in a local hospital.
Born February 1, 1944 in Orangeburg, SC he was one of three children of James H. B. "Hugh" Gaskins, Sr. and Helen K. Gaskins. Jimmy worked at Lockheed Aircraft Company for many years. He was the proprietor and owner of Jimmy's Pub wherein he had several locations over the years in the Charleston area.
Jimmy professed he didn't really start living until he married Deborah and they had their daughter, Emily. They were the two loves of his life. Jimmy was an avid supporter of Emily and her friends in all of their endeavors. Jimmy was known by his many friends for his keen wit and sense of humor. He attended Northwood Assembly Church.
Mr. Gaskins is survived by his wife of 19 years, Deborah Atchison Gaskins; daughter, Emily K. Gaskins; father, James Hugh Burns Gaskins, Sr.; sister, Lynne Watkins and her husband Dick of Rock Hill, SC; nephews, J.E.B. Watkins and John "Jack" Watkins and father-in-law, Lawrence T. "Tom" Atchison and his wife Debra. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Ruth Kemmerlin Gaskins; and brother, Donald Rhett Gaskins. He will also be missed by his faithful companion, his poodle Precious.
The memorial service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2PM. Inurnment at Carolina Memorial Park will be private. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Saturday, September 17, 2011 between 5 and 7PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Emily Gaskins Education Fund, First Citizens Bank, 2170 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
