James Henry Fleming, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Marjorie Jean Wear Fleming entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 31, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 4, 2024, in the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Ave, Charleston, SC 29405. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am before the service in Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
James was born August 20, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Wesley Fleming and the late Cecile Elizabeth James. James graduated from Moultrie High School in 1952. He attended Newberry College where he played football. James graduated in 1956 from Newberry College and later received a Master’s degree from Western Carolina University in Education.
James led a good life with a wife and three children. James was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a long-standing member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church where he served as both Elder and Deacon. James coached football, wrestling, and baseball at James Island High School. James later served as Principal at James Island High School.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Fleming of Mount Pleasant, SC; children, Cynthia Leigh Fleming (Fleetwood, Jr), James Henry Fleming, Jr. (Sally) of Mt. Pleasant, Caroline Fleming Borden (Kevin) of Piedmont, SC; Grandchildren, Fleetwood Fleming III (Maddye), Margaret Cecile Fleming (Will Irick), Megan Elizabeth Fleming, Meredith Jean Borden, Emma Caroline Borden; great grandson, Fleetwood Fleming IV; sibling, Sarah Fleming Boensch of Mount Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, John Fleming and Frankie Fleming.
James will be dearly missed by his family and friends. We take comfort in knowing we will see him again in Heaven, upon Christ’s return.
