James Robert Fernander, "Bob", 80, of Summerville, SC, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Veterans' Victory House in Walterboro, SC. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors, Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel.
He was born May 24, 1933 in Hardin County, KY. Mr. Fernander was retired after 20 years in the USAF and served during the Korean war. He was a semi truck driver for over 20 years, a member of the VFW and was also a member of the Shriners. Bob was a fun loving, generous man; he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing golf. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Victory House especially Kevin, his nurse, and Robert Brown with Agape Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Brownlee Fernander of Summerville, SC; sons, Greg Fernander and Paul Fernander and his wife Rennsa all of Greenville, SC; daughter, Debra Dyke and her husband Trevor of TX; step-sons: Larry Henderson of Summerville, SC and Rusty Henderson and his wife Jo of Charleston, SC; step-daughters, Amanda McQueeney and her husband Tommy of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Julie Lane and her husband Scott of Summerville, SC; half brothers, Ted Fernander and his wife Judy of Louisville, KY and Bill Richardson and his wife Joann of Cambridge, IN; half sister, Connie Draper and her husband Jack of UT; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, Brenda Fernander and Michael Fernander.
