James Mercier DeVeaux, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Louise Weekley DeVeaux entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 23, 2023. His funeral service will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 in Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 11:00 am. Following the service there will be a reception at James Island Yacht Club 734 Wampler Dr. Private interment will be held at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm, in J. Henry Stuhr, West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.
Jim was born October 1, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Mercier Green DeVeaux and Mary Hall DeVeaux. Jim was a Clemson Graduate and a member of the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed boating, sailing, travel, tennis and golf. He was a member of the Elks Club, Country Club of Charleston, Executive Association of Greater Charleston, and a Past Commodore at James Island Yacht Club. He was General Manager of The SC Farm Bureau Grain Elevator and the SC Farm Bureau's Man of The Year. . Jim was an exceptionally devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. An inspiring gentleman and companion to all, whose smile lit up the room.
He is survived by his son, James Mercier (Sallie) DeVeaux Jr.; two daughters, Cassie DeVeaux, Mary (Lee) Hudson; brother, Albert Lionel DeVeaux; seven grandchildren; Maxwell DeVeaux Hudson, Ryan Patrick Henry, Amanda Grace Hudson, Riley DeVeaux Henry, James Mercier DeVeaux III, Caroline Ravenel DeVeaux, John Wyatt Hudson and beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary Hall DeVeaux Carpowich.
