James King Brinkley, 71, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Susan Black Brinkley died Saturday, December 22, 2018. His memorial service will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends after the service at the residence from 4:00 until 6:00 pm
Jim was born February 18, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina, son of the late James Alden Brinkley and the late Jeanne King Brinkley. Jim graduated from Clemson University with a degree in engineering and received his Masters in engineering from the University of South Carolina. Jim served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and continued in the Army reserves until he retired in 2006 as a Colonel from the 108 Infantry Division in Charlotte, NC. He worked for Bell South for 29 years in engineering and marketing until he retired in 2004. After retirement he moved to Charleston, SC. He loved to fish and play tennis and spend time with family and friends.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years, Susan Brinkley. He also leaves behind his cherished children, Jennifer Brinkley Putnam and husband, Kevin and son, Braden; Stephanie Osada and her husband, Mark and children, Lucas and Eliza; Will Seybt and wife Brooke and daughters, Brady and Leighton. Jim also leaves behind his father-in-law, Lewis Black; brother, Charles Brinkley and his wife, Sandra, and sister, Carol Klein and her husband Don.
