The Reverend James R. Borom, 76, of Eutawville, South Carolina, husband of Harriet Fulmore Borom died at his residence Thursday, November 13, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, St. Stephen, SC. Interment, Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Father Borom was born April 30, 1938 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late James Hill Borom and Margery Robinson Borom. He attended the Atlanta public schools and received his B.A. degree from Oglethorpe College in Atlanta in 1962. He served as hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the war in Vietnam, then matriculated at St. Luke's School of Theology of the University of the South at Sewanee, TN, receiving the degree Master of Divinity. He was ordained priest of the Episcopal Church by the Bishop of Atlanta in 1967.
Father Borom served Episcopal parishes in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia in his ministry, most notably St. Mary's Church, High Point, NC, Church of Our Savior, Rock Hill and Christ Church, Greenville, SC. He also served parishes of the Anglican Catholic Church, most recently the Chapel of St. Charles King and Martyr, Mayesville, SC. He founded Lectour Limited, a printing supply company, in 1988.
Father Borom was an accomplished musician and organist, a gifted raconteur, and a devoted care-giver to rescued animals. He was a direct descendant of John Robinson, a cotton factor of Charleston circa 1810, and the builder of the so-called Aiken-Rhett House in Wraggsborough, Charleston.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters: Margie Phelps and Mary Croft, both of Atlanta, GA.
