James Fleming Bomar, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the age of 64, after a life spent loving and being loved by his many wonderful friends. He fought a blood disorder, Myelofibrosis for several years with great courage and optimism. His memorial service will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 11:00 am at Christ Church 2304 Highway 17 North, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466. Arrangements by J. James was born September 9, 1949 in Washington, DC, to Fleming Brown Bomar and Doris Thomas Bomar, and later was fortunate to have many years with his wonderful step-father, Millard Farrar West. He attended the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland and later Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He lived in Spartanburg for many years, learning carpentry and working as a contractor. In the mid eighties he relocated to Charleston and continued in the contacting business until he retired in 1998.
James was always noticed for his great height of 6'9". This unusual height drew people to speak to him and they were always met with his gentle, kind and gracious humor. He was a quiet man and a great listener, who took a genuine interest in other people. James was much loved by friends, neighbors and family.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Alexis Wilson Bomar, and sister Grace Sullivan Bomar, both of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister-in-law Suzanne Lamar Wilson of Potomac, Maryland and brother-in-law Thomas Evans Wilson, III and his wife Kay and their daughters, sons-in-laws and five grandchildren all of Beaufort, SC.
