James M. Ball

Lt. Col. James Michael Ball, US Army, Ret., 51, of Summerville, SC, the husband of Cheryl Cox Ball passed Friday, December 13, 2013. His funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013, in the North Charleston Church of Christ, 8415 Patriot Blvd. at 1:00 pm. Friends are invited to join his family to share stories on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR INC, NORTHWOODS CHAPEL. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

"Chigger" was born December 3, 1962 in Johnson AFB Tokyo, Japan, the son of the late Billy Joe Ball and Joyce Lee Freeman Holland. His military career spanned almost 27 years in field artillery; as a commissioned officer he piloted three different helicopters and was also in computer networking and communications. He earned a MBA from Webster University and was working towards his doctorate. He was employed at Sotera Defense Solutions in North Charleston and was an online instructor for Heald College. "Chigger" was a captain for CenTex Patriot Guard Riders and a member of US Veterans Motorcycle Club. He was a member of North Charleston Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of 29 years; two daughters, Jamie Michal Bridgeman and her husband Tyler of Lagos, Nigeria, Jenna Marie Ball of Killeen, TX; two sons, Jesse Miles Ball and Jordan Monroe Ball both of Charleston, SC; mother, Joyce Holland of Clarksville, AR; three sisters, Debra Howard of Burkburnett, TX, Carolyn Walker and Tina Holland both of Clarksville, AR; two grandchildren, Cheyenne and Charlotte Bridgeman; two "brothers", Brian Rosburg of Fairmont, MN, Doug DeVries and his wife Christine of Austin, TX; biker brothers everywhere; and work wife, Teri Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 and/or the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., North Charleston, SC 29406.
