James C. Baines, Jr., 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Marilyn Jane Hines Baines entered into eternal rest Monday, July 17, 2017. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 20, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 in First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
James was born October 22, 1932 in Nash County, North Carolina, son of the late James Clifton Baines and Tempie Bunn Baines. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. James was a licensed pilot, Certified Aviation Instructor, Charter pilot, former Co-pilot for Eastern Airlines in 1966, Air Traffic Controller FAA for 35 years, Operations Supervisor for Charleston County Aviation Authority for 9 years until his retirement. James enjoyed boating, fishing, working in the yard. He was the former Chairman of Deacons from 1995-1996 of First Baptist Church of Charleston, and a volunteer at Roper Hospital for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife 55 years, Marilyn Jane Baines of Charleston, SC; two sons, James Michael Baines (Jacqueline) of Ladson, SC, and Steven Clifton Baines (Rick Mohn) of Arlington, VA; granddaughter, Chantelle Stinson (Brandon) of Charleston, SC; two great- grandchildren, Victoria Stinson, and Michael Stinson both of Charleston, SC.James is preceded in death by a son, David Clifton Baines and sister, Dorothy Copella.
