James “Jimmy” Anthony Carney, aged 58, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15th 2026 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Born on November 2, 1967 in the best borough of Brooklyn, New York. Jimmy spent his life working hard and playing even harder.

Fittingly, his attitude in life could be summed up by the words of Irish poet William Butler Yeats: “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven't met yet.”

His beloved wife and soul mate was Emma “Emmy” Carney.

Together for 26 years and married for 16, they shared a beautiful life together. They loved going to sports games (Jimmy was The #1 Yankees Fan), visiting the Irish Village at Cape Cod, and sitting at the bar at every restaurant they went to. Jimmy was also a devoted stepfather to Peter Gambino, and cherished his family deeply.

Jimmy was born to the late James Michael Carney and the late Helena Burke Carney.

A man of many talents and interests, Jimmy proudly served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. His enthusiasm for sports is well-known - and well-documented! His absolute favorite team was the New York Yankees. He also loved the Buffalo Bills, the New York Rangers and the college football team Notre Dame. In his spare time, Jimmy could be found collecting coins and sports memorabilia - he had a whole room dedicated to it!

Jimmy was hired at ConEdison when he was 18 years old. He dedicated 33 years of service as a troubleshooter, where he worked hard and made lots of friends (no surprise there).

Beyond his professional life, he was surrounded by a loving family that included his sisters Maria Sedlak (Jerry), Barbara Crowe (Chris), Caroline Hess (Robert), and Dorothy Kennedy. He also leaves behind an astonishing 10 nieces and nephews.

He adored his dog, Brownie Girl (RIP), who he loved throwing across the floor like a football. And his furry companion, Louis Bird, who always fought for his spot on the couch - and often won.

The memorial service to honor Jimmy’s life will be held Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. Friends and family are invited to gather an hour before the service to celebrate his memory.

Jimmy will be remembered for his passion for sports, the profound love he had for his wife, and the way he could walk into a room not knowing a single person and leave the room with several new best friends.

His legacy will live on through the lives he touched - from the coworkers who turned into lifelong friends to the local bartenders he met on vacation. And of course, his memory will remain forever in the hearts of his family, who loved him more than words could ever describe.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are entrusted to J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com
