Jacqueline “Jackie” Knight passed away on December 25, 2025 - a day that suited her beautifully as she loved Christmas with her whole heart. Jackie was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a faithful servant of her church, and a compassionate clinical counselor whose life was defined by caring for others.

Jackie was born on May 17, 1944 in Morehead City, North Carolina to Eugene Jennings Null and Ruth Cole Null. She was raised in Roanoke Virginia in a large, close-knit family with four siblings where her lifelong values of family, service and compassion were first nurtured.

She found her greatest joy in motherhood and took pride in raising her three children in Summerville, South Carolina, a community she dearly loved and where she formed many treasured friendships. Jackie lived life with energy and curiosity. She was an avid runner, a collector of historical pink and white china, and a devoted volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Jackie enjoyed helping with the Flowertown Festival and took delight in organizing its first “Dollhouse Showcase”. She was also a founding member of The Summerville Cotillion, an organization that reflected her love of tradition and community.

Faith was the steady foundation of Jackie’s life. At St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Summerville, she volunteered with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the building committee for the church’s new sanctuary. In later years, she was an active member of First Christian Church in Charleston, where her husband served as pastor and where she continued to serve her church with warmth and dedication.

Jackie received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and later a master’s degree in counseling from the College of Charleston. She dedicated many years of professional service to both the Dorchester Department of Mental Health as well as the Charleston branch, where she was known for her empathy, integrity and genuine care for those she served.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Barbara Dix; her stepdaughter, Amy Hampton Knight Cadwell; and her husband, Robert Marsden Knight, who passed away just one day before her- a poignant reflection of the closeness they shared in life.

She leaves behind a family who loved her; her daughters Lisa Thomas (Milton) of Charleston, Kathryn Sherrod (Will) of Mt. Pleasant; her son, Dr. William Edwards, Jr. (Katie) of Mt. Pleasant; and a stepson, James Rollo Knight (Julie) of Chicago. She was the proud grandmother of nine beloved grandchildren; Elliott Thomas Kincaid (John), Rob Thomas, Kate Sherrod, Charlotte Sherrod, Chandler Edwards, Ruthie Edwards, Jackson Knight, Shepard Cadwell and Harmon Cadwell, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

A joint service celebrating the lives of Jackie and Monty Knight will be held on Friday, January 9, at 3:00 pm at Grace Church Cathedral in Charleston. A private internment at Mepkin Abby will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, in keeping with Jackie’s compassionate spirit.
