Jackie Gene Moore, 71, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 24, 2010. Mr. Moore was born to Perry and Grace Moore on January 17, 1939, in Indianola, IA. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Judy Moore, his son, Jack R. Moore and a brother, Robert E. Moore. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Moore McGinn (Dr. Kevin McGinn) of Summerville, SC; and three grandchildren: Patrick McGinn, Lauren McGinn and Christina McGinn. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1956 and married the love of his life, Judy Roberts in June 1957. His military career included service on the USS Kitty Hawk, USS Bennington and USS Sierra. He was especially proud of his role in recommissioning the battleship USS Iowa in 1983. After retiring from the Navy he was employed by the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an electrician. Most recently he was employed by National Car Rental until his retirement in 2005. Jackie was an active member in the Goose Creek American Legion Post 166 and the Goose Creek Fleet Reserve Chapter 269. He was also an active member of the Tin Can Sailors Organization for Retired Destroyer Veterans. Mr. Moore loved traveling with his family to various destinations including Ireland and Mexico most recently. He was extremely proud of his daughter, Jill, and his grandchildren including Patrick McGinn who graduated from the College of Charleston in May 2010 and will be attending graduate school at the University of Georgia. Mr. Moore's family would like to thank his many friends who supported him before and during his illness. The memorial service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at a time to be announced. The family will receive friends following the service. The family request that any memorials be sent to the Doc Williams SPCA, 109 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
