Jack McCarthy Steele, III

Jack McCarthy Steele, III, 67, of North Charleston, South Carolina, entered eternal rest Tuesday, April 15, 2025 after a long hard fight against his cancer and he was ready to see his heavenly father. He never lost hope and always kept the faith! His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Jack was born August 24, 1957, in Mooresville, North Carolina, son of Jack McCarthy Steele Jr. and Hilda Drye Steele. He had a loving and great life, fishing and spending time with his Edisto River and Corner Store Family. Jack owned Jellico’s in Ridgeville for many years, was a crane operator for Limehouse and Sons and a proud steel worker. He was also a Golden Glove Boxer and NASCAR fan. Jack is also known as a great storyteller and amused everyone with his jokes. He always found a way to brighten someone’s day. Even during his chemo treatments, he stayed in great spirits, telling everyone, “They call me Cornbread”. He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back. His daughter was his best friend and his whole world.

He is survived by daughter, Holly Anne Steele of Mt. Pleasant, SC and her mother, Autumn Steele, his sister Ann Grizzle (Paul) of Mt. Pleasant, Gayle Rickett (Ricky) of Pinopolis, and brother, Rudy Steele (Donna) of Sumter; three nieces, Brandi Steele Millan of Sumter, Courtney Rickett of North Charleston and Tara Steele Leverette (Dennis) of Columbia; four surviving aunts, two uncles, and 16 cousins. Jack’s family would like to express their love and appreciation to his friends and medical providers who gave him such amazing care and support.
