"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." A quote from C.S. Lewis that perfectly describes our beloved Jack Q. Petty, Jr., who passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday morning, September 12, 2024, a day before his 70th birthday.
Jack was born on September 13, 1954, in Tennessee to Dr. Jack Quentin and Jean Epps Petty. He attended public schools and graduated from Spartanburg High School (Class of 1972). Jack enrolled and graduated from The Citadel (Class of 1977). He started his career in car sales by working for the family business, Petty Nissan, Anderson, SC. After many years, Jack retired as President and CEO of Spartanburg Mitsubishi. Following retirement, Jack relocated to Mt. Pleasant, near Shem Creek, where he enjoyed boating and playing golf with his wife Robyn.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, Robyn McElduff Petty; his canine love, Eddie Petty; one brother, Mike Petty, and his wife, Linda Kennedy Petty, of Lake Hartwell; uncles, Dr. Jerry Petty and Larry Petty; aunt, Jane P. Kendrick; extended family members and a plethora of Mt. Pleasant friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Reid Petty, who passed away in 2020.
We shall always remember our Humble Jack as:
He did all the good he could,
By all the means he could,
In all the ways he could,
In all the places he could,
At all the times he could,
To all the people he could,
As long as he lived.
You all may do the same by contributing to a charity of your choice in his memory.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
