Jack Augustin Freundl, born September 7, 1924 in Mankato, Minnesota passed away May 21, 2016 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was 91.
The son of Philip and Rose Mettler Freundl, Jack was the third of seven children. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Loyola High School in Mankato, and graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He enlisted in the Naval Aviation Program in May of 1942 and became a carrier fighter pilot. Jack met his late wife, Anna "Ann" Harris Freundl, in Orlando, Florida on V-J Day, August 14, 1945 and they married one year later.
Jack and Ann established his accounting firm, Freundl Company, in Osceola, Iowa in 1951, working with clients throughout central and southern Iowa. He served in an advisory capacity to the Internal Revenue Service, and is past president of the Iowa Society of Public Accounting Practitioners. He was also past president of his community Lion's Club and member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the VFW.
He helped develop the Lake Shore Drive neighborhood in Osceola, Iowa, where he and his wife built their home. After the sale of their business in 1989, Jack and Ann retired to Florida, Ann's home state. They lived there until his wife's death in 2011.
Jack is survived by three daughters, Dr. Pamela Kirst of Los Angeles, California, Debi Chard Lockwood of Charleston, South Carolina, and Shelli King of San Rafael, California; grandchildren, Sarah Chard Pelot, Jason Chard, Anna Chard, Alison King, Kevin King, and Stephen Kirst; great grandchildren, Strider Pelot and Caleb Pelot; as well as his sister, Elizabeth Freundl Gibson, and brothers Keith Freundl, and Ronald Freundl of Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities USA, P.O. 17066, Baltimore, MD 21297-1066, or to Building Fund, Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 885 Island Park Road, Suite A, Daniel Island, SC 29492.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28 at the Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island. Father H. Gregory West, pastor of Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island, will be the celebrant. There will also be a service at a later date in Indialantic, Florida.
