J. Gary Coffman, age 73, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, February 5th. His parents, Arlie Wilbur and Mary Coffman, preceded him in death. Gary lived most of his adult life in Worthington, Ohio, and retired to Seabrook Island, South Carolina several years ago with his wife of 51 years, Diane (Carlisle) Coffman, who survives him.

He was the father of two daughters, Kristy (Mark) Shannon, and Jenny (Kyle) Strahler. He also had four beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Kasey Shannon, and Rex and Bella Strahler, whom he loved deeply. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Carol (Dick) Owens, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary attended The Ohio State University, served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service, he graduated from Capital University Law School, and practiced law in Columbus, Ohio until his retirement. Gary and Diane loved to travel, boat on Lake Erie, and spend time with family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, as well as at Mt. Zion Elementary School on John's Island.

Friends may call at The Church of Our Saviour, 4416 Betsy Kerrison Parkway | Johns Island, SC 29455, on Friday, February 10th, from 9:30-10:30. Funeral service will follow at 11:00.
