J. Robert Bergmann

August 10, 1959 — July 16, 2010

J. Robert "Bob" Bergmann, husband of Elaine Meyer Bergmann died on the afternoon of July 16, 2010.  The relatives and friends or Mr. and Mrs. J. Robert Bergmann are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in Grace Episcopal Church Monday, July 19, 2010, at eleven o'clock.  Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.  Friends may call at their residence, 1012 Scottland Drive, Mt. Pleasant, Sunday between five and seven o'clock.

Bob was born August 10, 1959 in Middletown, Ohio, the son of William Leo Bergmann and Betty Clark Bergmann.  In 1969 his family moved to Sewickley, PA where he graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 1977.  He graduated Cum Laude from Washington & Lee University in 1982 with a B.S. in Accounting and began his career with Ernst and Whinney in Pittsburgh, PA.

He married his college sweetheart, Elaine Meyer, of Charleston in June of 1983.  They then moved to Charleston where he continued to work in the accounting field.  For the past fifteen years, Bob was a successful mortgage banker, most recently for the Wells Fargo Professional and Executive Private Banking Mortgage Division, where he received many achievement awards.

Bob was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the usher team for many years.  He was a twenty-four year member of the Exchange Club of Charleston.  He particularly loved his volunteer time at the Coastal Carolina Fair.  He also loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is survived by his wife; his two sons, John Robert Bergmann, Jr. and Stender Douglas Bergmann and his daughter, Caroline Maida Seabrook Bergmann, all of Mt. Pleasant; his father of Bradenton, FL;  his brothers, Bradley W. Bergmann and Brian S. Bergmann of Sewickley, PA; his brother-in-law, Dr. Halford E. Meyer of Columbia, SC; many nieces and nephews and a most cherished yellow lab, Roosevelt.

Bob loved his children and his entire family.  He always encouraged them and helped them plan for their future.  Bob never gave up during his more than two year battle with cancer.  He persevered and fought for every precious moment with the ones he loved.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to all of the physicians and nursing staff who have been so exceptional over the past two years.  Bob was especially blessed by the care he received on 5 South at Roper Hospital.  His caregivers there have become an extension of his family.

Memorials may be made to "Saving Grace", Grace Episcopal Church, 115 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or Ashley Hall, 172 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC  29403.
