Iva Jean Gibson Boris, 75, of Summerville, SC wife of Emile Boris, died Friday, December 2, 2011, in a local hospital.
Born December 20, 1935 in Georgetown, SC she was one of eight children of William James Gibson and Della Mae Chamberlain Gibson. Mrs. Boris graduated Winyah High School in Georgetown, SC, St. Francis Xavier Hospital Nursing School in 1957 and Baptist College of Charleston, later re-named Charleston Southern University in June of 1975. She was a nurse at Roper Hospital in the emergency rooms during the 1950's and 1960's; a teacher of English in Hanahan High School before she resigned to raise her two sons. She served as president of the Dorchester County Republican Women's Club in the 1980's; and was a loving, devoted wife and mother of two fine sons. Mrs. Boris attended Summerville Presbyterian Church and then The Cathedral of Praise.
Mrs. Boris is survived by her husband of 47 years, Emile Boris; two sons, Christopher Clayton Boris and John Keith Boris all of Summerville, SC; sisters: Kathryn Molony and her husband David of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Lillie Spain and her husband Steve of Lynchburg, VA and Lee O'Connell and her husband Frank of Chicago, IL; and her brothers, Bobby Thomas Gibson and his wife Joyce of North Charleston, SC and Kenneth M. Gibson of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William E. Gibson and Freddie J. Gibson.
The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Saturday, December 3, 2011 between 5:00 and 8:00 pm.
