Irving Stokes, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday July 28 2012. The relatives and friends of Irving Stokes are invited to visit with the family on Friday August 3, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A Memorial Service will take place in the J. Henry Stuhr Chapel at 11 a.m., followed by the interment with military honors at the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park.
Irving was born on September 30, 1920 in Mt. Pleasant, SC, son of the late Lawrence Stokes and the late Marie Johnson, and was married to the late Rebecca Boston-Stokes. Irving was a WWII US Army veteran and retired as an Electrical Engineer for Grumman's Corporation on Long Island, NY. After retiring, in 1980 he returned to his home in Mt. Pleasant, where he worked as a part time supervisor for the Charleston County School District, Department of Custodial Service until 2006. He joined the Jehovah Witnesses Organization in July of 1976 and was a devoted brother.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife, Loretta Pinckney-Stokes, of Mt. Pleasant SC, his daughters, Thomasena Stokes-Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Rosalee Godfrey of Philadelphia, PA; his son, Irving Stokes Jr. of Manhattan, NY ; brothers, William and Henry Stokes of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nephew, Rev. Robert Stokes of Mt. Pleasant SC, sister-in-law, Christine Robinson of Queens, NY, 4 granddaughters, 6 great granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 9 great grandsons, 3 great great grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
Irving Stokes was preceded in death by son Anthony Stokes of Syracuse, NY, sister, Virginia Edwards, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter Deaidra M. Bailey of Richmond VA.
