Irma Lee Abrams Wiggins, 94, of Charleston died Tuesday at MUSC Hospital after several years of declining health.Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, officiated by the Rev. Ronald R. Shearer of Ashley River Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park at 7113 Rivers Ave. following the service.
Mrs. Wiggins was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Kingsburg, SC, a daughter of Ellie Davis Abrams and Selina Poston Abrams. She was the last survivor of nine children and the widow of Woodrow Gasque Wiggins, who died in 1974.Mrs. Wiggins moved to Charleston in 1955 from Pamplico, SC, and worked at the American Tobacco Co. for 15 years before being employed by Morrison Cafeteria, from which she retired in 1989. She was a former member of Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church at Pamplico.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda W. Burbage (Roger, deceased) of Charleston and Judy W. English (Tom) of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Wally Burbage (Suzanne) of Ravenel, Lisa B. Summers (Jason) of Jacksonville, FL, Barbie E. Clancy (Jeff) of Wilmington, NC, Tripp English (Marisa) of Fayetteville, NC, and Chris English (Beth) of Greensboro, NC; 10 great grandchildren, Collier and Abram Summers, Maggie Burbage, Lauren C. Hites, Michael Clancy, Katherine C. Edge and Erin Clancy, Bryant English; and Clayton and Caroline English; six great-great grandchildren, Caleb and Tori Hites, Landon and Scarlette Edge, and Ashton and Evelyn Clancy.
The eight siblings who preceded Irma Lee in death were Woodrow Abrams, Naida A. Eaddy, Mary A. Ham, Ruth A. Haselton, Winston Abrams, Hubert Abrams, Juanita A. Davis and Wynell A. Howell.
The family offers loving appreciation to caregivers Cynthia Richardson, Sharon Smalls, Leslie Power and Lily Fulmore and is especially thankful for the kindness of Suzanne Burbage and Loretta Kennedy.
