Iris Graves Allen, 86, of Summerville, South Carolina, wife of the late Lacy Alexander Allen, USAF (Ret.), entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.
Iris was born December 21, 1937 in Tallahassee, Florida, daughter of the late Charlie O’Dell Graves and the late Ruby Elizabeth Fann Graves. She was a graduate of Wacona High school, where she met and married her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years. Iris was also a graduate of the Candler Hospital School of Nursing, Savannah, Ga. She served as a nurse for more than 47 years. She loved homemaking, sewing, playing tennis, golf, bowling and entertaining her family and friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Brenda Bigham, Rebecca Jewell, Beth Cole (Jeff) Betty Jean “BJ” Allen all of Summerville, SC; seven grandchildren, Michelle Iris Clement, Nicholas John Clement, Preston Allen Cole, Bridget Ione Bigham, Lacy Evan Bigham, Travis Allen Merritt, Joshua Alexander Merritt; seven great grandchildren, Ayden David Lanbert, Elijah Allen Cole, Camden Andrew Cole, Sloan Lennon Leslie, Waylon Leslie Merritt, Elloree Iris Merritt and Myla Rose Merritt; brothers, Royce Graves (Cherry), of Murrayville, GA, and James Hill (Betty), of Owings, Maryland. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and William Graves; sister, Barbara Huskey and grandson, David Anthony Clement.
