Irene Thompson Barrineau

August 3, 1944 — February 5, 2021

Irene Thompson Barrineau, 76, of Charleston, SC, and wife of the late Charles H. Barrineau, III, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 5, 2021. A private service will be held at the graveside in the Carolina Memorial Park. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.

Irene was born August 3, 1944 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Oscar Lee "O.L." Thompson and Margaret Rodgers Thompson. She graduated from Hanahan High School and later retired from the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Irene was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She was an energetic volunteer and enjoyed playing bridge and pickleball. She always enjoyed time with her family on Lake Moultrie. She will be remembered as a gracious, kind, and loving friend.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (David) Alexander and Christine (Ron) Inabinett; her grandchildren, Carter (CJ), Katie, Audrey, and Maria; her sisters Elaine (Mike) Strong and Joyce (Skip) Lovejoy; her brother, O.L. (Toni) Thompson, III; her brother-in-law, Doug (Jo) Gressette; her sister-in-law, Kay Simms, and several nieces, nephews, along with other family members and friends. Besides her husband of 57 years and her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anne Smith and Mary Gressette.
