Irene Mary Skibinski Ameika, 92, of Daniel Island, SC and widow of Walter Ameika passed away on the afternoon of June 5, 2010. The relatives and friends of Irene Ameika are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial in Christ Our King Catholic Church on Wednesday June 9, 2010, at ten o'clock. The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Irene was born October 31, 1917, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Sidney Skibinski and Mary Z. Skibinski. She was very involved in the community and was loved by everyone who knew her. A volunteer with The American Red Cross, she was a member of the Cherry Hill, NJ Senior Center. She loved to travel and was able to travel to every continent except Antarctica. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was very involved with her family's life. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Kraemer and her husband, Richard of Daniel Island, SC; two sons, Walter Ameika and his wife, Martha of Johns Island, SC and Dr. James Ameika and his wife, Karen of Jonesboro, AR; nine grandchildren, Victoria Kraemer, Andrew Kraemer, Christopher Kraemer, Ashley Ameika, Matthew Ameika, Michael Ameika, Lily Ameika, Brent Harris and Walter Harris and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen T. Kraemer. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
