Irbin "Pops" Eduardo Smith, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Ella Mae Anderson Smith, entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 25, 2016. The family will receive friends Friday September 30, 2016 in Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd., North Jacksonville, Fl., from 12:00 Noon until the graveside service at 2:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the graveside at 2:00 p.m. Local arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC.
Pops was born December 25, 1927 in Roatan, Honduras. He was the son of the late Edrick F. Smith and Delzie Margarita Flowers Smith. Pops was a U.S. Merchant Marine's Engineer until his retirement after 44 years of service, and a member of the U.S. Merchant Seaman's Association. He traveled to every country with the exception of two, Communist China, and Communist North Korea. Pops was a warm hearted man, and he gave generously to those who were in need. Those life's he touched will cherish him forever.
He is survived by his five daughters, Lillie Ann Carrigg (John) of Charleston, SC, Julie R. Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Jill E. Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Sharon D. Smith of Beaver Falls, PA, Susanna Z. Cobachuela of Miami, FL; three sons, Robert E. Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Kerry E. Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Dan I. Smith of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Rubeta L. Ebanks (Robert), and Kay Barbara Johnson (Arturo) both of Roatan, Honduras; brother, Federico Ramon Smith (Loraine) of Belize; fifteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a daughter, Elah Margarita Cigna.
