Inez Theresa Mitchum Locke was received into the arms of Jesus April 2, 2023, at the young age of 91 years. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and friend to all.
Inez is survived by her children, Theresa Locke Watts (Joe) and Lynwood D. Locke, III (Rhonda); grandchildren Ashley and Lenny Locke, and siblings Ivey Mitchum Turley (Gerald - deceased) Silvine Mitchum Patierno (Richard - deceased), Thad Lawless Mitchum (Sylvia), and Faye Mitchum Bolin (Ken - deceased).
Inez is predeceased by her parents, William Lawless and Theresa Driggers Mitchum, her husband of 43 years, Lynwood D. (Bud) Locke, Jr. and siblings Gladys Mitchum Cade (Fo) Annie Mitchum Williams (Ronald), Burnette William Mitchum (Blanch) and Hugh Tupper Mitchum.
She graduated from Chicora High School and was involved in many clubs and associations. While attending school, she and her good friends Betty Jean (Butch) Huggins and Shirley (Monkey) Chaplin were stars of the basketball team in 1951. Inez was also a beauty queen in a parade on the Edwards Department Store float.
Inez and Bud traveled the country during his Air Force tours of duty and had two beautiful children during this time. Once settled in Charleston, she worked at Kerrison's Department store for 15 years until it closed; while there, she was the president of the Women's Auxiliary Club of Kerrison's. After Kerrison's Inez worked at her retirement fun job at Round Robin until she retired for good.
She and Bud were members of the Elk's club where they spent many Saturday nights dancing with family and friends.
To Inez, family was the most important thing in her life evidenced by the care she gave her parents and family members in their waning years. She spent all of her time with her family in Charleston and her extended family and friends in California, Florida and New Jersey.
She was a faithful member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association ( 884 Allbritton Blvd Suite 115, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464) and St. Matthews Lutheran Church (405 King St, Charleston, SC.)
A viewing will be held at J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel, on Tuesday April 4, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm The service will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King St. Charleston, SC, on Wednesday, April 5, at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow the service at Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Ave., Charleston SC 29405. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
