Idona "Jean" Gillette, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of LCDR Ronald Victor Gillette, USN (Ret.) entered into eternal rest with her adoring family by her side on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 7, 2018 at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday October 8, 2018 at Old St. Andrew's Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Old St. Andrew's Parish Churchyard.
Jean was born May 14, 1930 in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late Charles O. Claytor and Thelma Clark Claytor. She was a member of the Naval Officers' Wives Club, Garden Clubs of Charleston and Drayton on the Ashley, Daughter of the King, Shadowmoss Ladies' Golf Association and longtime member of Old St. Andrew's Parish Church.
Being a Navy wife for over 26 years, she traveled the world and ultimately found their home port in Charleston. She was the matriarch of the family and known affectionately by all as "Meemaw". She was a kind, gracious, southern lady who loved deeply and was loved by all who met her.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lisa Seagle (Mike) of Charleston, SC; Vicki Filan (Mike) of Charleston, SC; Leslie Herman (Steven) of Adams Runs, SC; eight grandchildren, Christopher Filan, Matthew Seagle, Erin Wilson (James), Hannah Grace Porter (Eric), Justin Seagle, Allison Seagle, and Emma Herman; three great-grandchildren, Christian, Clark and Mary Alice. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Jeremy Seagle and brother, Chelsey A. Godfrey.
