Ida Spitz Swindell
September 17, 1939 — February 8, 2021
Ida Spitz Swindell, 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William John Swindell, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, February 8, 2021. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 11, 2021 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Her private graveside service will be held at a later date in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Ida was born September 17, 1939 in Morgan, Laclede County, Missouri, daughter of the late Joseph Edward Spitz and Flossie Chambers Spitz. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the College of Charleston in 1961 and later she earned her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of Charleston in 1992. Ida's first teaching position was at Hampton County High School in Varnville, SC. She retired from Charleston County after having taught in private and public elementary and middle schools in Charleston County including: Wallace Middle School and Florence Crittendon School for unwed mothers and also served as a Homebound Instructor for Charleston County. After her retirement and receiving her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education she was an adjunct instructor at Trident Technical College and became a Master Certified DSS Trainer for the SC Child Care Career Training System.
Ida's many interests included writing poetry. Her self-published book Hear His Voice is a collection of poems written over 30 years born out of prayer and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Ida was a member of First Christian Church, Ashley River Baptist Church, Calvary Lutheran Church and most recently The Church of the Good Shepherd located at 1393 Miles Drive. She was also a member of the Order of St. Luke, a healing prayer ministry. Her faith, church service and ministry of sharing God's love to all she met was a vital part of her life.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Ruth Caroline Swindell of Charleston, SC; and two cousins: Betty Tucker of Independence, MO and Barbara Chizek ("Bubba" Bob) of Platte City, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Day School at Church of the Good Shepherd, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.
