Ida Schaeffer Fisher

June 12, 1928 — March 11, 2015

Ida Schaeffer Fisher, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Morris Fisher entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 . Her graveside funeral service was held Thursday, March 12, 2015 graveside at Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery Maryville at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel.

Ida was born on June 12, 1928 in New York City, the daughter of Sam Schaeffer and Sadie Frischman Schaeffer. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946 and met Morris Fisher outside of Yankee Stadium. They got married in 1949 and moved to Charleston in 1950. In Charleston, she worked side by side with her husband to open and run two grocery stores until 1978: Morris Food Store on Coming and Radcliffe street, the Folly Road Pantry on James Island.

In addition to working full-time, she raised three children and was a tireless volunteer in the community. Ida was dedicated to Jewish organizations, including being a member of BSBI, BSBI sisterhood, Hadassah, AMIT Women, Women's ORT, and the Charleston Jewish Community Center. Following retirement, she continued to work and volunteer, due to her sincere love of being around people and helping others in need. For instance, she was proud to work for the Trident Community Foundation, now known as the Coastal Community Foundation. In later years, she loved working at Costco, seeing customers and constantly making new friends. Ida will always be remembered as an outgoing and engaged member of the community.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Stricker (Michael) of Charleston, SC and two sons, Dr. Dennis Fisher (Terry) of Sullivans Island, SC and Allan Fisher (Louise) of Potomac, MD, as well as seven grandchildren: Leah Fisher, Joshua Stricker (Ricki), Samantha Fisher, Elon Stricker (Sara), Jacob Fisher, Leila Stricker, and Sam Fisher.

The family will be receiving visitors at 1584 Seawind Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 on Friday from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday thru Tuesday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, 182 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403 or to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, 1639 Raoul Wallenburg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407.
