Hugh David Singleton

Hugh David Singleton, 49, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2013. A Celebration of David's Life will be held TUESDAY, July 23, 2013 in the Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth Street at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately later. The family will receive friends SUNDAY, July 21, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

David was born July 15, 1964 in Conway, South Carolina, son of Ronald Singleton and Vivian Spencer Singleton. He graduated from The College of Charleston and went on to earn a Masters in Education from The University of South Carolina. He was an Event Logistics Coordinator with the Historic Charleston Foundation. David was a faithful member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry of the oldest free Episcopal Church in America, and was a former Senior Warden, served as a Lay Reader and was a member of the Flower Guild. He was a gifted gardener and had a deep love of nature. David loved all of life, and was involved with the ASPCA, and the Wildlife Federation. He was the owner of EventSublime, Flowers and Events planning. Locally he has spoken and presented at The Charleston Fall Floral Show and multiple floral shows, the Gibbes Museum's Ladies' Auxillary, and the Historic Charleston Foundation's Houses and Gardens Special Event Series. He was an exhibitor for various shows in the Gibbes Museum of Art, Operation Team Smile, and the Charleston Garden Show. His amazing sense of humor endeared him to all, and his deep love of the history of Charleston and all things Lowcountry was always evident.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Vivian Singleton of Conway, SC; his sister, Jennifer Singleton and her partner, Robin Gibson of Cornelius, NC; and his brother, Greg Singleton of Springfield, VA. David is also survived by his nieces, Ashlee Singleton and her husband, Brennan Gilligan of Manassas, VA, and Wallis Singleton of Manassas, VA.

Memorials may be made in David's name to the Historic Charleston Foundation, 40 East Bay Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
