Hugh S. Gwyn, Sr., age 82 of Isle of Palms, SC passed away in Charleston, SC on September 16, 2026. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Edythe and Beattie Gwyn of Marion, VA, and his wife of 58 years Barbara Crowder Gwyn of Isle of Palms, SC. Hugh is survived by a brother Clayborne B. Gwyn of Marion, VA, son Hugh Stephen Gwyn, Jr. (Mary) of Lexington, SC and daughter Elizabeth Jones (Glenn) of Huntersville, NC. Hugh had 3 grandchildren that he loved dearly, Nathaniel Jones, Andy Gwyn and Nicholas Jones and was affectionately known as Poppy.

Hugh spent many years working for and helping to build the family business started by his father: Gwyn Distributing in Marion, VA. He also owned for nearly 20 years along with his wife WMEV FM-94 radio station in Marion, VA. Hugh was an active member of Marion Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. He was also a master planner of family vacations! Hugh and Barbara retired in 1999 and moved to Isle of Palms, SC. Hugh was an active member of First Baptist Church Mt. Pleasant, SC and sang in the church choir. He and his wife helped serve Meals on Wheels for several years in the Mt. Pleasant and Isle of Palms areas. Hugh absolutely loved his Los Angeles Dodgers and was a lifelong fan of the Dodgers. He enjoyed many hours in retirement watching them play on TV. And, Hugh enjoyed the first of many games in person at Dodger Stadium on Father's Day 1979 on a family trip across the country. He will be missed by so many, and all the great memories will live on!
