Hugh Willcox Buyck

Hugh Willcox Buyck, Jr., 17, beloved son of Meredith and Hugh Buyck of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, died early Saturday morning, May 24, 2014 as a result of a boating mishap. His Funeral Service and burial will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street, with a reception to follow. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. Hugh was born June 29, 1996 in Charleston, South Carolina and is a graduate of Charleston Day School and attended Porter-Gaud School and Wando High School. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, where he served as a crucifer and acolyte. He was an avid sportsman and loved the great outdoors, with a passion for fish and fowl. He played basketball at Porter-Gaud School, enjoyed all water sports, and was a cradle Carolina Gamecock fan.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Peter Shand Buyck and his sister, Meredith Coles Buyck of the home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark W. Buyck of Florence, SC and Mr. and Mrs. F. Barron Grier III of Columbia, SC; his uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Mark W. Buyck III of Florence, SC, Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. McKissick of Greenville, SC, Mr. and Mrs. F. Barron Grier IV of Columbia, SC, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bennett Griffin III of Columbia, SC; and a number of devoted cousins, Julia Smyth, Charles, Mark, Elizabeth, Brooks, Charlie, Ann West, Grier, Ava, and Barron; and the most blessed, Angela Wine.
