Hubert James Whaley, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Kathryn Craven Whaley entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 27, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 in First Baptist Church of Charleston, 48 Meeting Street at 2:00 pm. Burial services with military honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in First Baptist Church of Charleston. Jim was born November 16, 1927 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, son of the late Charles T. Whaley and Lula Belle Thomas Whaley. He graduated from Myrtle Beach High School and North Carolina State Fire College. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Navy. He was a retired Captain with the Charleston Naval Base Fire Department and retired from First Baptist Church of Charleston and First Baptist School for over 50 years as basketball coach, property manager and school bus driver. He was also an Electrical Contractor. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston and served as Deacon. He and his wife "Kitty" enjoyed singing in the choir and they dearly loved First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn Allgren of Charleston, SC, Thayer Arredondo and husband Victor of Charleston, SC, and three grandchildren, James Theron Whaley, Jr., Grace Kathryn Arredondo, and Victor Burk Arredondo; 10 nieces and a nephew. Jim was preceded in death by a son, James Theron Whaley, Sr. and a brother, George A. Whaley.
